2013 10th Anniversary Year

After taking over and running The Glen Hotel at Newtonmore in the Scottish Highlands for 14 years, we moved back closer to our origins in 2003 when the wonderful opportunity arose to take over this delightful village pub in West Burton.

I have always enjoyed the social atmosphere of pubs, their centrality within the wider community, and their ability to provide the facilities for neighbours to meet and interact.

This pub gave us the perfect chance to recreate the type of friendly, welcoming and essentially fun atmosphere that has largely vanished from Pubs in general.

Many have become transformed, in effect, into licensed restaurants or hotels, which have shed any resemblance to the unique, characterful places that people loved to spend their leisure time frequenting.

The ethos behind this business is that the popular food we serve compliments the overall image and personality of the original, unique and strong cultural model so loved by people throughout the land.

We feel that we have re-established and improved the pub by keeping it as a “pub” and brought it into the modern era without destroying its soul or identity.

The Fox & Hounds is a family run pub welcoming well behaved children and pets.  We serve morning coffee and afternoon teas as well as lunches and evening meals from our extensive Bar Menu...and we are in the most perfect location!

West Burton is one of the most beautiful and peaceful villages in the whole of the Yorkshire Dales, with its traditional stone built cottages bordering the vast village green where children can safely play on the swings whilst the adults enjoy a relaxing drink at The Fox & Hounds Inn and take in the fantastic views.

The village has its own hidden waterfalls which are surely one of the most popular subjects for photographers coming to Wensleydale (see photo on the right) and in summer provide the most perfect swimming pool for locals and holidaymakers alike.

To the locals, The Fox & Hounds Inn is, essentially, their local pub at the centre of their community and where they come to relax after a hard day’s work.  Visitors, too, appreciate our good selection of hand pulled ales and are pleased to note that The Fox & Hounds is included in:-
